The Consumer division (known for brands like PCWorld, Macworld, Tech Advisor, & PC Welt to name a few) works closely with the rest of the B2B focused businesses but has a stand-alone element that allows us to adjust and apply strategies to work specifically for the nature of our Consumer business. Its revenue is spread across Direct sold media solutions, Indirect Programmatic and Network platform sales, Affiliate based revenues and paid for Reader solutions (print and digital).


As both media and marketing evolve, IDG continues its position in the market as a leader in delivering trusted solutions and content to its user base across the range of our 26 consumer sites across the globe. We have strong aspirations to further grow our audiences, traffic and revenues.


The Affiliate Manager will play an integral role in moving the worldwide IDG Consumer business forward.  Affiliate and Ecommerce are key revenue sources for IDG Consumer, and are tied closely with both Editorial for Content and Sales for collaborative initiatives.


This role will report directly to our Head of Affiliate and will work with the English-language team to help drive growth related projects and strategy.  To be successful in the Affiliate Manager role at IDG, you must be confident in your ability to work toward aggressive strategic and revenue goals set by the Consumer Leadership Team.


We are looking for someone to work within the global Affiliate Team, workflow systems and strategy so that each brand, site and platform is managed to deliver the highest possible affiliate revenues. This role is focused on IDG’s English-language brands but the role includes close liaison with the global team.

  • Build direct relationships with individual brands, retailers, affiliate networks and performance agencies on a global or local basis, to reach financial and strategic goals.
  • Regularly meet current and potential new partners to negotiate improved rates and deals that will maximize our revenue per article, and uncover new opportunities.
  • Manage Amazon Onsite Publishing initiatives.
  • Create new and custom ideas/implementations that can lead to incremental revenue (flat fee spends, etc); Work with our internal teams (Engineering, Audience Development, etc) to build and execute those ideas.
  • Diplomatically work with editors and writers to ensure that Affiliate is a core focus throughout in the planning, creation and publishing of content.
  • Use Analytics tools to identify and recommend affiliate content opportunities and liaise with Editorial on planning and publication via and regular meetings.
  • Audit and recommend optimisations to existing content.
  • Contribute to local and worldwide Topic Boards.
  • Optimise on- and off-page conversion rates.
  • Work with Editorial and Audience Development to push transactional content.
  • Work alongside the Editorial team to ensure the articles they publish contain monetizable product links wherever it’s possible, and where it makes sense for the reader.
  • Identify existing content that needs improvement in these areas and improve them, or coordinate to have them improved.
  • Sign up to networks and campaigns, add new partners to IDG Links, add product feeds to on-page widgets, and assist with network swaps.
  • Alongside Editorial, support, maintain and develop of the affiliate link and product databases.
  • Respond to enquiries from performance agencies about hybrid Sponsorship/Affiliate bookings.
  • Work with One Commercial teams on other tenancy-based deals that either come via that division or are passed its way by us – including conceptual and advisory activity in the design of media packages or customer solutions with proportional performance or affiliate components.
  • Contribute to and support IDG’s objectives in creating a work culture that makes IDG a great place to work including - training, development, respect, diversity, inclusion and wellness at work.


  • Minimum of 4 years of affiliate-focused or editorial work in a consumer environment.
  • Extensive experience and excellent results in affiliate management.
  • Understanding of ecommerce markets, editorial content, SEO, analytics, social media, push and other online marketing topics that could influence our Affiliate business model.
  • A solid understanding of how content can drive affiliate revenues. 
  • Strong awareness of the value and use of analytics.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships; must be able to work with various internal stakeholders in a collaborative & harmonious way and drive projects through to successful conclusion.
  • Ability to review, select and manage external partnerships to maximize our return and affected results.
  • Adaptable & able to switch focus and priorities quickly and seamlessly.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work at fast pace, to achieve targets & business goals.
  • Precision in analyzing results, reporting and providing recommendations /adjustments.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on an as-needed basis (currently limited due to Covid-19 precautions).
