The Consumer division (known for brands like PCWorld, Macworld, Tech Advisor, & PC Welt to name a few) works closely with the rest of the B2B focused businesses but has a stand-alone element that allows us to adjust and apply strategies to work specifically for the nature of our Consumer business. Its revenue is spread across Direct sold media solutions, Indirect Programmatic and Network platform sales, Affiliate based revenues and paid for Reader solutions (print and digital).

 

As both media and marketing evolve, IDG continues its position in the market as a leader in delivering trusted solutions and content to its user base across the range of our 26 consumer sites across the globe. We have strong aspirations to further grow our audiences, traffic and revenues.

 

The SEO Manager will play an integral role in moving the worldwide IDG Consumer business forward.  Audience Marketing is at the intersection of content and product with audiences flowing into our sites where they are monetized by Direct Sold Advertising, Indirect Programmatic advertising and via our Affiliate partnerships.

 

This role will report directly to our Head of Global Consumer Audience and will oversee the worldwide audience growth related projects and strategy.  To be successful in the SEO Manager role at IDG, you must be confident in your ability to work toward aggressive strategic and audience goals set by the Consumer Leadership Team).

 

We are looking for someone with the ability to look down-field and plan for the evolving market while also ensuring our day-to-day needs and goals are also achieved.  The SEO Manager will be the driving force behind SEO optimizations that lead to organic audience growth.  They will be tasked with implementing the appropriate strategies, tools, processes, and metrics that will guarantee a positive impact on our overall traffic levels and revenue growth.

Responsibilities

  • Perform keyword research to identify areas of growth, competitive gaps, and keywords to defend.
  • Work closely with Editorial teams to create comprehensive, competitive content strategies across the portfolio.
  • Differentiate content strategies across global markets.
  • Monitor, identify, and communicate technical issues to Product and Dev teams, with an emphasis on global SEO strategies.
  • Track organic performance using various tools, including Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, SEMRush, Screaming Frog, and more.
  • Monitor competitive performance for opportunities and threats.
  • Work cross-functionally to support Editorial, Affiliate, Business Intelligence and Sales as needed.
  • Be the primary go-to SEO resource across the Consumer group.
  • Lead internal editorial training of SEO best practices.
  • Keep abreast of SEO trends, algorithm updates, and best practicesContribute to and support IDG’s objectives in creating a work culture that makes IDG a great place to work including - training, development, respect, diversity, inclusion and wellness at work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of SEO experience  in a consumer environment
  • Extensive experience and excellent results in increasing organic traffic
  • Understanding of international SEO content strategies
  • A solid understanding of how content and technical SEO work hand-in-hand 
  • Strong awareness of the value and use of data to create strategic plans
  • Established track record of achieving organic growth
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships; must be able to work with various internal stakeholders in a collaborative & harmonious way and drive projects through to successful conclusion
  • Must have experience with evergreen editorial content strategies
  • Experience utilizing a wide variety of SEO tools including, but not limited to: SEMRush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and more.
  • Experience collaborating with Editorial partners on execution of content strategy
  • Deep knowledge and experience with technical SEO (ex: XML sitemaps, canonicalization, hreflang, robots.txt, URL redirects, Core Web Vitals, Page Speed, etc)
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally with various stakeholders, and a keen understanding of how SEO fits into the Audience Growth Plan
